Signs of grinding
- Worn, flat or chipped edges on your teeth
- A sore jaw or a dull headache when you wake
- A partner who hears grinding at night
We look for wear at every exam and show you what we see.
How the guard is made

We take a digital scan at a short visit. A lab makes a thin, hard guard that fits your upper or lower teeth. At a second short visit we check the fit and adjust your bite on it.
When to see your doctor
A night guard protects the teeth; it does not treat the cause. Loud snoring or pauses in breathing at night can be a sign of sleep apnea. Tell your doctor, who may order a sleep study.
Questions about night guards
Can I buy a guard at the drugstore?
You can. A store guard is softer and bulkier, and some people chew on it. A fitted guard is thinner and lasts longer. We can talk through both.
How do I clean it?
Rinse it each morning and brush it gently with cool water. Keep it in its case, away from pets and heat.
